#IHaveThisThingForDoors? Yup—us, too. Here at The Ainsley, you can find one of LA’s most Instagram-worthy doors right within Townhome 103, currently serving as The Ainsley’s Sales Gallery.
Dainty in design and complex in geometric structure, the jaw-dropping “Impossible” Origami Door folds rather than swings open or shut, serving as an inimitable art piece unlike anything you’ve seen in a home. Highly functional and generously space-saving, the door leads to a basement-level suite that offers a unique speakeasy-like experience upon entering. When the entrance to the basement is closed, the door operates as a contemporary painting. Then, when you fold the door open, that painting assumes its exact shape on the other side of the stairway entrance. Press play and you’ll see exactly what we mean.
So, what lies beyond this beautiful and seemingly mind-bending door? Descend the stairs and you’ll find a large living space staged by luxury design firm Vesta that can be transformed into a bedroom or office with an adjoining entertainment area. There’s no question you’ll definitely want to grab a quick video of the door, originally inspired by Vienna-based artist Klemens Torggler.
“The fictitious resident who ended up being the inspiration for this space is a music executive,” lead designer Jules Escalona shared. “He or she wants to be close to the action on Melrose, right in the heart of everything, but also wants to be able to entertain clients right at home.”
One of three boutique communities in The Melrose Collection, The Ainsley evokes a decidedly modern living experience where artistic designer touches like the Origami Door blend into every day. In each residence, natural materials and refined finishes offer a sleek backdrop for versatile living — and simply no detail has been spared.
